The 12 steps to energy maintenance

- First, admit to yourself that slumping is a problem. It’s easy to forget the energy slumps of last week, yesterday, even an hour or two ago, and then end up doing it again.
- Are you slumping for a reason? Perhaps you prefer the sleepy fog of the slump to the work that’s on your desk? Admitting this could help you to move on.
- Make an honest list of your fixes. What time do you use your fixes and what times do you usually slump? Is there a link?
- Fixes are enjoyable. We don’t have to eliminate them forever, just use them in moderation. Think of the health and weight benefits! It’s about realistic maintenance.
- Get on the ‘water wagon’. Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated helps keep your energy and concentration levels where they should be (and leaves less room for caffeinated and sugary drinks).
- Do a bit more exercise. Believe it or not, it doesn’t make you tired, it can help energise you.
- Take Bassett’s Soft & Chewy Daily Energiser. Specially developed for busy people, the deliciously chewy and fruity pastilles contain essential B vitamins and CoQ10 to help your body to maintain your energy levels. Keep them on your desk; you can take up to 3 a day.
- Don’t skip meals – you’ll only end up turning to quick energy fixes instead to fill the gap.
- Are you a social biscuit muncher or coffee drinker? Dazzle your friends with a green tea and a banana one day. They’ll all want to join in when they see the healthy glow that appears to surround you.
- Don’t be afraid to involve others. Employ a friend as coffee monitor or tell people that you will NOT be going to the vending machine – they can get their own fizzy drinks today.
- Remember, caffeine and sugar are the symptom, not the cure. Tell your friends, they’ll love you for it (or they’ll throw their biscuits at you).
- Don’t be swayed too easily. People will try to lead you astray with coffee and cake. They’re probably envious of your new-found perkiness now that you’ve taken the right path.
